In 2000 I found this recipe, my very first black bean plant based burger. Very tasty and healthy.

1 cup chopped tomatoes
1 (4 oz.) can chilies
1/4 cup fresh cilantro or parsley
1 T lemon juice
tabasco for tasting
1 (15 oz.) can black beans, drained and rinsed
1/4 cup oat bran
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp chili powder
1 green onion, sliced
black pepper to taste


In large bowl, combine the chopped tomatoes, chilies, cilantro, and lemon juice. Season to taste. Chill till serving time.

In food processor, pure the black beans. Mix with the oat bran, cumin, chili powder, and sliced onions. Season with salt and pepper. Shape into 2 inch patties.

In non-stick skillet, lightly rub with olive oil. Dip patties in the oat bran and brown on both sides.

Serve with the chilled salsa.
