I've cooked brown rice many ways - traditionally, as listed on packaging, and in my fancy European rice cooker. I found this recipe online and, initially, thought - No way; this isn't going to work. Was I surprised and pleased. This is now my preferred way of preparing brown rice!

  • 1 cup brown rice
  • 2 cups water
  • Wash the rice in cold water.
  • Rinse and strain.
  • Boil the water.
  • Add the rice to the boiling water, and stir once.
  • Keep pot UNCOVERED; stir simmering rice occasionally for 30 minutes.
  • Turn off the heat. Drain any excess water.
  • Then cover the pot with a tight lid and let rice sit for 10 minutes.
  • Fluff after 10 minutes and, walla, you have perfect fluffy rice!
