If you're hankering for a super, rich, antioxidant powerhouse beverage, this is it. Dr. Greger on his fantastic site, www.NutritionFacts.org, has a fun video where he demonstrates how to make this super beverage. 

  • 1 carrot stalk
  • 1 celery stalk
  • 1 scallion
  • 1/2 red bell or orange pepper
  • 1/5 slice of a beet
  • 1/4 " fresh turmeric
  • 1/5 slice of jalapeno pepper
  • 1 cup of hearty greens (like kale or arugula)
  • 1 cup no salt tomato juice
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1/8 tsp black cayenne pepper (optional, or use black pepper)
  • 1/2 tsp horseradish
  • juice from 1/2 lemon with lemon zest

In high speed blender, like a Vita Mixer, add the carrot, celery, scallion, pepper, beet slice, turmeric wedge, jalapeno pepper, and greens.

Then add the tomato juice, ice cubes, pepper, horseradish and lemon juice with zest.

Blend well and enjoy!!

(Note:  If you watch Dr. Greger's entertaining video, he'll suggest preparing ingredients for 5 days worth of beverages. Put ingredients from the carrot through the greens into a baggie and refrigerate. When ready to make beverage, put veggies in Vita Mixer then add the tomato juice through the lemon juice and zest. I've done this and it's fantastic and saves time.) 

I'll often have a hearty cup of this beverage with a bowl of power oatmeal and I'm good till late lunch!!
