This is another favorite recipe from Dr. Neal Barnard's, "Get Healthy, Go Vegan" Cookbook. We all know that Sloppy Joes are a hit with everyone, especially kiddos. Enjoy on your favorite multi-grain bun.

  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 1 (8 oz) package tempeh, crumble into small pieces
  • 1 (8oz) can tomato sauce
  • 2 T ketchup
  • 1 T agave nectar or date syrup
  • 1 T apple cider vinegar
  • 1 T vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsps prepared mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

Heat 1/2 cup water in skillet. Add the onion and bell pepper and saute until cooked through. Add the remaining 1/2 cup water and tempeh. Saute for 5-7 minutes, allowing the tempeh to cook to well done.

Add the tomato sauce, ketchup, agave or date syrup, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and garlic powder and cook for 15 minutes.
